Online classes are very different from attending a class in person. Online classes have been available for decades, but in recent years technology has improved both the delivery and the effectiveness of an online education by leaps and bounds. By offering online classes, schools allow students to work on their own pace and schedule.

Students need not attend online classes in a regular manner. Their instructors and fellow classmates are aware of their presence when they log into the system. Study material and exams are distributed online. However, the online student isn’t completely independent- periodically they must login according to a schedule set by the instructor. In terms of interaction, virtual discussions are commonplace, very similar to a chat room or discussion board format.
